Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 June 2026

Stay Green is built privacy-first. The app's job is to silently keep you showing as active on your own Mac, and it does that with the lightest possible touch. It collects no behavioural data and shows no ads. To deliver updates and run licensing it makes a few narrow network requests - and here is exactly what they are.

What Stay Green does on your Mac

To keep you marked active, Stay Green synthesizes the gentlest input macOS will accept:

  • One harmless keypress - the F15 key, an old keyboard code that triggers nothing on a modern Mac and does nothing visible.
  • A zero-distance mouse-move - the cursor doesn't actually move; it's the same signal macOS sees when you nudge the mouse.

Together these reset the system idle timer, which is what keeps Teams, Slack, Zoom, Discord and other presence-aware apps showing you as Available. That's the whole trick.

Just as important, what it never does:

  • Reads nothing. It does not read your screen, your documents, or any other app.
  • Logs no keystrokes. It is not a keylogger - it sends one synthetic keypress and records nothing you type.
  • No behavioural analytics, telemetry, or tracking. It doesn't record what you do, when you're active, or anything about your other apps.
  • No accounts. There's no sign-in.
  • Your settings stay local, in macOS UserDefaults on your machine.

What the app sends over the network

The app contacts the network for only two things:

  • Software updates. Stay Green checks our update feed at getstaygreen.com for new versions so it can update itself. This is a standard update check - no personal information is sent.
  • Licensing. To run your free trial and, if you subscribe, your license, the app contacts our server and sends:
    • a device identifier - a one-way salted hash derived from your Mac's hardware ID. It is not your hardware ID and can't be reversed to identify you or your Mac; it only lets us anchor a trial to a machine and tie a license to a single Mac.
    • your license key, if you've entered one.
    • a device name (your Mac's hostname), so you can recognise which Mac you've activated.
    • the app version.

Stay Green also works offline. Once activated, it carries a 14-day offline grace window, so it keeps you green without an internet connection and only needs to check in again before that window lapses.

Payments

Subscriptions are handled by Creem, our payment provider and merchant of record. When you buy, Creem processes your payment and billing details under its own privacy policy - we never see or store your card details. We receive your email address and the license key issued for your subscription, so we can manage and validate it.

This website

  • Windows notify list. If you ask to be notified about the Windows version, we store the email address you submit, so we can email you once when it's ready - no name, no profile.
  • Privacy-friendly analytics. We use Vercel's cookieless, aggregate page analytics to see which pages get visited. It sets no cookies, collects no personal data, and doesn't track you across other sites.
  • No ad trackers. We don't embed third-party advertising or cross-site trackers.
  • Unsubscribe anytime. Reply to any email or contact us and we'll delete your data.
